Cut the new potatoes into bite-sized pieces with the skin on. Soak in water, then drain. Place in a microwave-safe container, cover loosely with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 4–5 minutes until tender.

Trim the ends of the asparagus and peel the lower half with a peeler. Cut into bite-sized pieces. Place in a microwave-safe container with 1/2 tbsp water, cover loosely with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 2 minutes. Drain the water.
