Prepare the asparagus and onion: Trim 2cm from the asparagus ends, peel the lower 4cm, and cut into 4cm lengths. Chop the onion coarsely.

Sauté the asparagus and prepare the meat sauce: Heat 1/2 tbsp salad oil in a pan over medium heat, sauté the asparagus for 1 minute, and set aside. Heat another 1/2 tbsp salad oil, sauté garlic and onion until softened, then add ground meat and cook until browned. Mix in ketchup, soy sauce, and pepper.

Assemble and bake: Spread the meat sauce in a heatproof dish, layer the asparagus on top, and drizzle with mayonnaise. Bake in a preheated toaster oven (1000W) for 7–8 minutes until lightly browned.
