Heat salad oil in a frying pan and sear the beef, rolling it to brown all sides evenly.
Place the seared beef into a heat-resistant storage bag.
Add hot water to a rice cooker and place the bagged beef inside. Place a plate on top as a weight, close the lid, and keep on the warm setting for 30–40 minutes.
Remove the beef from the bag and cool it in ice water. Chill thoroughly in the refrigerator, then slice thinly and serve with wasabi as desired.
