INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 🟫 1 cup brown sugar
- 🍞 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 🌾 ¾ cup quick-cooking oats
- 🧂 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 🧈 ½ cup butter, melted
- 💧 1 cup water
- 🟨 1 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Main Ingredient
- 🍒 4 cups pitted tart red cherries
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Combine brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, and cinnamon in a bowl until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into an 8x8-inch pan. Add cherries on top.
Make the syrup: In a saucepan, mix water, white sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and syrup becomes clear (about 5 minutes). Pour syrup over the cherries and crumble the remaining oat mixture on top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
