INGREDIENTS
Base
- 6 whole matzos
Toffee layer
- 🧈 1 cup salted butter
- 🟫 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
Chocolate layer
- 🍫 20 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
Topping
- ½ cup chopped pecans
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Line baking sheets with aluminum foil, pinch edges into a lip to contain drips, and grease foil with butter.
Place matzos onto the prepared baking sheets, breaking them in half if needed.
Melt 1 cup butter with brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes. Spread hot brown sugar mixture evenly over the matzos using a rubber spatula.
Bake matzos in the preheated oven until the sugar mixture is bubbling and set, approximately 20 minutes. Allow cooling for 15 minutes until the toffee coating is firm.
Microwave chocolate chips on low power until melted. Carefully spread the melted chocolate over the toffee-coated matzos and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
Refrigerate the baking sheets until coated matzos are firm and chilled, for about 30 minutes. Break matzos into pieces and store them in airtight containers or resealable bags.
