INGREDIENTS
Filling
- 🧈 2 tablespoons butter
- 🍏 2 large green apples - peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 🧂 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 💧 1 teaspoon water (optional)
Dough
- 1 pound prepared pie dough, cut into 4 pieces
Topping
- 🥚 1 egg
- 🥛 2 teaspoons milk
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
STEPS
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat until golden brown and toasted, about 1 minute.
Add apples, white sugar, brown sugar, and salt. Cook and stir until softened, about 5 minutes. Mix in cinnamon and water. Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes until soft and sticky. Cool the filling.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mat.
Form a piece of dough into a ball, roll into an 8-inch circle on a floured surface.
Place 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the apple filling in the center of each circle.
Fold the dough over the filling and seal by pinching and crimping the edges tightly.
Brush the pies with egg and milk mixture, and sprinkle with white sugar. Cut 3 small vent holes in each pie.
Bake in the oven until golden brown, 25-30 minutes. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
