INGREDIENTS

- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 🧂 2 teaspoons salt
Fat and Liquid
- 🧈 ¾ cup shortening or lard
- 💧 ¾ cup hot water
STEPS
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add about ¾ cup hot water as needed.
Knead the dough by hand or with a large fork, adding flour if needed, and form a soft round shape. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rest for 1 hour.
Divide the dough into 12 equal-sized balls. Roll each ball on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
Place a tortilla in the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute per side until browned and slightly puffy. Keep cooked tortillas covered.
