INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 🧂 1 pinch salt
Wet/Fat Ingredients
- 🧈 ¼ cup cold butter, cubed
- ⅛ cup white sugar
- 🥛 ½ cup milk, or as needed
- 🥛 2 tablespoons milk
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl.
Rub in butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar and enough milk to create a soft dough.
Turn dough onto a floured surface, fold 2 to 3 times, roll out to ¾-inch thickness, and cut into 2-inch rounds. Place rounds on the baking sheet and brush the tops with milk.
Bake in the preheated oven until scones are risen and golden, about 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
