STEPS
Prepare the meat sauce by heating a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook ground sirloin and sausage together until browned and crumbly. Drain and set aside.
Add olive oil, onion, and salt to the Dutch oven. Cook until softened and translucent. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
Add crushed tomatoes, red wine, tomato paste, sugar, black pepper, and crushed red pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 30 minutes. Add basil and parsley before turning off the heat.
Prepare the bechamel sauce by melting butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour and cook for 3 minutes. Gradually pour in milk and stir until thickened. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg, then whisk in ricotta cheese.
Cook lasagna noodles in boiling salted water until tender yet firm. Rinse with cold water.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Layer the lasagna: Start with 1/2 cup meat sauce, followed by 4 noodles. Add 1/3 meat sauce, 1/2 bechamel sauce, 1/3 mozzarella cheese, and 1/2 Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers once and finish with the remaining ingredients.
Cover the lasagna and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
