INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 🧂 ¼ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients & Sweeteners
- 2 cups lard, softened
- 🍚 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 🥚 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup brandy
- 🍚 ¼ cup white sugar
- 🌰 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Flavorings
- 2 teaspoons anise seed
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl; set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the lard and 1 ½ cups sugar together with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the anise seed and beat until fluffy. Stir in the eggs one at a time, followed by the brandy. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture to form the dough.
Roll dough with a floured rolling pin to a thickness of 1/4 or 1/2 inch. Use cookie cutters to cut dough into shapes, such as fleur-de-lis. Transfer cookies to ungreased baking sheets.
Mix 1/4 cup of sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle the mixture over the shaped cookies.
Bake in the preheated oven until the edges are golden brown, about 10 minutes. Let cool before serving.
