Place a soup or stock pot on the stove over medium heat. Add the vegetable oil, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, dried basil, oregano, and chili powder. Cook for about 10 minutes until the onion is soft.

Add black beans, water, and the bouillon cube. Raise the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the heat to simmer and cook for about 2.5 hours until the beans are very tender and the mixture is blended.

Optional: Cool the soup for 20 minutes and puree it using a blender in batches. Blend until smooth and transfer to a container.

Just before serving, squeeze lime juice onto each bowl and add a tablespoon of yogurt as garnish.
