INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 🧂 ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
Wet Ingredients
- 3 cups white sugar
- 🧈 1 cup butter, softened
- 🥚 6 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9- or 10-inch tube pan.
Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat sugar and butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in lemon and vanilla extracts.
Add the dry ingredients in batches, alternating with buttermilk. Beat briefly after each addition. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 90 minutes, until the cake begins to pull away from the sides of the pan. Do not open the oven door until after 1 hour.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
