INGREDIENTS

  • Sweet Bun Dough

    • 🧂 ½ cup white sugar
    • 🥛 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
    • 🍞 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
    • 4 cups bread flour
    • 🥚 2 eggs, beaten
    • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 🧂 2 teaspoons salt
    • 💧 2 teaspoons water
    • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish

STEPS

1

Whisk milk and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until sugar is dissolved. Stir in yeast, and let stand until a frothy layer forms on the milk, about 10 minutes.

2

Stir in flour, most of the beaten eggs (reserve about 1 tablespoon of egg in a small bowl for later), vegetable oil, and salt; mix well until thoroughly combined.

3

Turn dough out onto a well-floured work surface, and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place dough into a large oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, place the bowl in a warm spot, and let rise until doubled, 2 to 3 hours.

4

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

5

Remove dough from the bowl, knead briefly to punch down, about 1 minute. Roll dough into a rope, cut into 12 equal pieces, roll each piece into a ball, and flatten into a disk about 5 to 6 inches in diameter.

6

Place 2 tablespoons of bun filling in the center of each disk, bring edges up over filling, pinch and twist to seal. Place seam-side down on parchment paper.

7

Cover the filled buns with plastic wrap, let them rise for 30 minutes.

8

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Beat reserved egg with water, brush tops of buns with egg wash, sprinkle sesame seeds.

9

Bake buns in the oven at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes, turning the baking sheet halfway through baking. Serve warm.

💡 You can customize the filling based on your preference—try barbecue pork, sweet bean paste, or Nutella for a twist.Ensure the dough is slightly sticky but not too wet during kneading for the ideal texture.Letting the dough rise in a warm and moist area will help it double effectively. If you want sweeter buns, increase the sugar content slightly in the dough recipe.
