INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 💧 2 cups water
- 🧈 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 🥚 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (optional)
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
Combine boiling water and butter, stir until melted. Cool for 5 minutes. Whisk in eggs and vanilla.
Add wet ingredients to dry mixture and beat for 2 minutes. Stir in nuts if desired.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until a wooden pick comes out clean, 30-35 minutes.
Cool the cake completely on a wire rack, approx. 15 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and cut into squares to serve.
