INGREDIENTS
Pastry
- ⅔ cup shortening, chilled
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- 💧 5 tablespoons cold water
Filling
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cups fresh blueberries
- 1 ½ cups fresh blackberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
STEPS
Cut shortening into flour and salt until it resembles small peas. Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough forms. Roll into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Coat berries in mixture. Place filling into the pastry-lined dish, sprinkle with lemon juice, and dot with butter. Add the top crust and cut slits for ventilation.
Cover the edges with foil. Bake until crust is golden brown and juices bubble, about 45 minutes. Remove foil for the last 12 minutes.
