INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 🧂 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 🧈 1 cup butter, softened
- 🥚 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped fresh figs
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Glaze
- 🧈 1/2 cup butter
- 🧂 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease a 9x13-inch dish.
In a bowl, mix together flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Cream sugar and butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs and beat in the dry mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Fold in chopped figs and pecans. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake the cake in the oven until a toothpick comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool for 30 minutes.
To make the glaze, combine butter, sugar, evaporated milk, and baking soda in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until the mixture reaches 240°F (115°C) or forms a soft ball.
Beat the glaze until thickened, spread it over the cooled cake.
