Dough Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons dry yeast
- π§ 1/4 cup water
- π₯ 1/2 cup milk (100 to 110 degrees F)
- π§ 2 tablespoons sugar
- π₯ 1 large egg
- π§ 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- π§ 1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
Filling Ingredients
- π§ 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- π₯ 1 large egg
- π§ 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup golden raisins
- π° 1/4 cup sliced almonds
- π° 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
STEPS
Combine yeast, warm water, and warm milk in a stand mixer bowl, and let sit for 15 minutes.
Add sugar, egg, butter, cardamom, flour, and salt and knead with the dough hook attachment until smooth.
Form dough into a ball, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size.
Prepare cinnamon sugar and egg wash in two separate bowls.
Divide dough into 4 equal pieces and roll one portion into an 11-inch circle.
Layer the dough circle with egg wash, cinnamon sugar, dried fruits, and nuts.
Repeat above steps for remaining dough and filling layers, then top with final dough circle.
Mark center of dough stack and cut into 16 strips, twisting and pinching into star arms.
Proof bread in a warm place until puffy, about 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400Β°F and brush surface of bread with egg wash.
Bake until browned, about 20 to 25 minutes, then cool before dusting with powdered sugar.
