INGREDIENTS
Base Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 🐄 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
Vegetables
- 🧅 1 cup finely diced onion
- 1 cup finely diced red bell pepper
- 🧄 1 ½ teaspoons finely diced garlic
Liquids
- 🍅 1 ½ cups crushed and strained tomatoes
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 💧 ¼ cup water
Seasoning
- 🧂 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
Other
- 🧈 4 tablespoons butter
STEPS
Turn on a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot) and select Sauté function. Add avocado oil and coat the bottom. Add ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook and stir until vegetables are soft and beef is no longer pink, approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease.
Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in crushed tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, water, dark brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, tomato paste, dry mustard, and red pepper flakes.
Close and lock the lid; close the vent. Select High pressure for 5 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
Meanwhile, toast hamburger buns and coat with butter.
Release pressure using the natural-release method for 10 minutes, then carefully use the quick-release method for the remaining pressure. Unlock and remove the lid.
Serve the mixture on toasted buns.
