INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 🧂 ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup quick-cooking oatmeal
Wet Ingredients
- 🧈 1 ½ tablespoons butter
- 1 ½ cups nonfat plain yogurt
- 🥛 1 teaspoon milk, or more as needed (Optional)
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
Mix all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Cut butter into the mixture until it resembles fine crumbs.
Add whole wheat flour and quick-cooking oatmeal to the bowl and stir to combine.
Gently stir in yogurt. Add milk, a little at a time, if the mixture is too dry. The dough should not be too sticky.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently about 5 times to form a ball.
Place the dough in the center of the prepared baking sheet and cut a large 'X' in the top of the loaf.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the loaf is well browned. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

💡 Serve the bread warm or cold for the best taste.Use quick-cooking oatmeal for a smoother texture, but rolled oats can be a substitute if not available.Cutting an 'X' on top of the dough helps it bake evenly and gives the bread a traditional appearance.
