INGREDIENTS
Dough
- 💧 1 ½ cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 🍬 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 5 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 🌾 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 🧈 ¼ cup melted butter
- 🧂 1 teaspoon coarse salt
Baking soda solution
- 💧 4 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- ½ cup baking soda
Topping
- 🥚 1 large egg, beaten
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease baking trays.
Mix water and sugar in a bowl until dissolved. Add yeast and let sit until creamy foam forms, about 5 minutes.
Whisk flour, butter, and salt in a bowl. Add yeast mixture and mix with a fork until dough starts to form. Knead on a floured surface until smooth.
Divide dough into 15 pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
Prepare a baking soda solution by mixing warm water and baking soda. Dip pretzels in the solution and place on baking sheets. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-12 minutes, or until browned.
