INGREDIENTS
Base
- π§ 3 tablespoons butter
- π§ Β½ cup finely diced onion
- Β½ cup chopped green bell pepper
- Β½ cup chopped celery
- π§ 2 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- π 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
- π 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- π§ 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Protein
- π¦ 1 pound medium shrimp - peeled and deveined
Optional Garnishes
- π 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
STEPS
Gather all ingredients.
Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat; add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook and stir until onion softens and bell pepper is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Mix in cornstarch. Stir in stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
Stir in shrimp, lemon juice, and fresh thyme; cook until shrimp turn pink and are opaque, about 5 minutes.
