INGREDIENTS

- 🍓 2 pounds fresh strawberries, sliced
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 🥚 5 eggs, separated
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups white sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
STEPS
Place the sliced strawberries into a mixing bowl and stir in 1 cup of sugar. Cover, and refrigerate 2 hours to overnight. Stir occasionally.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish. Whisk flour, cornstarch, and baking powder in a mixing bowl.
Beat egg yolks with vanilla extract until smooth; set aside. Whip egg whites until very stiff and slowly incorporate 1 1/4 cup sugar until stiff. Fold in yolk mixture and dry ingredients until just combined.
Pour batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 22 to 25 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before inverting onto wax paper.
While cooling, whip heavy cream with confectioners' sugar to soft peaks.
Cut each cooled cake square in half horizontally. Layer with strawberries and syrup, then top with whipped cream.
