Dairy
- 🥛 2 cups whole milk
- 🧀 24 ounces extra-sharp yellow Cheddar cheese
- 🧀 16 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, cubed
- 🧀 2 pounds sharp Cheddar cheese
Pantry Staples
- 🧈 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 🥚 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
Pasta
- 2 pounds elbow macaroni
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a large casserole dish.
Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan, add milk, bring to a simmer, and reduce heat to low. Mix flour with water until smooth, add flour mixture, and stir constantly until sauce thickens. Add cubed Cheddar cheeses and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
Cook elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente as per package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter in a microwave. In a large bowl, combine elbow macaroni, melted butter, eggs, and cheese sauce. Adjust consistency with milk if needed and season with salt and pepper.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish. Top with shredded cheese and breadcrumbs.
Bake until golden-brown and bubbling, approximately 35 to 45 minutes.
