INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 4 ½ cups bread flour
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
Wet Ingredients
- 💧 1 ¼ cups water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Boiling Ingredients
- 💧 4 quarts water
- 🍯 1 cup honey (Optional)
Optional Toppings
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons dried onion flakes
- 🧂 1 tablespoon coarse salt
STEPS
Combine water, flour, sugar, salt, vegetable oil, and yeast in a stand mixer. Knead on low speed until dough is well-developed, about 8 minutes.
Transfer dough to an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 2 hours.
Punch down the dough, divide into 6 pieces, and shape into bagels. Let rest for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C) and prepare a lined baking sheet with parchment.
Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil and add honey (optional). Boil bagels 3 at a time for 1 minute per side.
Dip boiled bagels into toppings and arrange on baking sheet.
Bake bagels in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until browned.
