INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Wet Ingredients
- 🧈 2 cups butter at room temperature
Sweetener
- 🍚 1 cup white sugar
- ✨ 1 tablespoon colored sugar, or to taste
STEPS
Preheat oven to 275°F (135°C). Butter a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Mix flour (4 cups and 2 tablespoons), butter, and white sugar using your hands until completely combined. Spread dough into a prepared baking pan, cover with waxed paper, and press firmly into the pan. Prick the dough through the wax paper with a fork and remove the wax paper.
Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned, about 1 1/2 hours. Remove the pan from the oven, cut the shortbread into 1-inch squares, and return the pan to the oven to cool completely with the oven turned off.
Sprinkle colored sugar over the shortbread squares, remove from the pan, and store in an airtight container.
