INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Proteins
- 🍗 1 (3-pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
Oil
- 🛢 Oil for deep frying
STEPS
Combine flour, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper in a large resealable bag. Toss the chicken pieces inside to coat evenly.
Place the floured chicken on a wire rack and refrigerate for 45 minutes until the coating becomes pasty.
Heat 1 ½ inches of oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Coat the chicken once again in the flour mixture for an extra crispy layer.
Lower 2-3 chicken pieces at a time into the hot oil and fry for 8-12 minutes, turning once, until golden and an internal temperature of 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) is reached.
Drain fried chicken pieces on paper towels and keep them warm in a 200-degree F (93 degrees C) oven until ready to serve.
