INGREDIENTS
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 🧂 ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 5 teaspoons baking powder
Wet Ingredients
- 💧 1 ¼ cups water
Other Ingredients
- 🍇 1 cup raisins
- 🌰 1 cup chopped walnuts
- ½ cup chopped candied citron
- ⅓ cup shortening
STEPS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and water. Add raisins, nuts, candied citron, shortening, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon; bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
Sift in flour and baking powder; stir until well blended. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Leave in pan and cut into squares for serving.
